Free Ward in the Battle Against Obscenity
The Salt Lake Tribune is carrying the following report by Robert Gehrke: The former U.S. Attorney in Utah heads a national anti-porn task force.
Brent Ward is a tremendous leader in the effort against obscenity but he is hamstrung by the fact that the FBI will not investigate and most U.S. Attorney’s will not prosecute anything other than the most extreme obscenity. Hence, obscenity floods cable/satellite television, hotel/motel video services, book and magazine stores and the Internet. The porn industry is quite satisfied with the federal government’s strategy because the major obscenity distributors remain free from extreme pornography and, thus, free from prosecution. Brent should be free to enforce obscenity law as passed. He would get the job done.
