What the ACLU Can Learn From an Atheist

Calling himself a "cultural Christian," leading God-denier Richard Dawkins still understands what strict separationists like the ACLU fail to grasp: The West has a culture and that culture is Christian in its foundation, mores, and traditions – and should be expressed in the public square. In particular, Dawkins, author of The God Delusion, says:

So, yes, I like singing carols along with everybody else. I’m not one of those who wants to purge our society of our Christian history.

Hmmm. Even the world’s most vocal (and some would argue, caustic) atheist does not want to airbrush away the UK’s cultural history. This just shows how radical the ACLU and its allies really are. And, no, the First Amendment does not change this analysis. Rather, that amendment guarantees that the State is proscribed from censoring religious expression.
