NC: Battle for Equal Access in Elementary Schools Continues



The Christian Action League reports on ADF’s response to the ACLU bully tactics to exclude the Gideons from public schools:

The issue surfaced early last month when Christians from at least 30 churches gathered to call for school officials to reverse their earlier decision preventing Gideons from handing out New Testaments to fifth-graders. But leaders of the grassroots effort point out that what is at stake is more than Gideon Bibles . . .

. . . The move came in response to a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union threatening to sue the school system for allowing Bible distribution. But now, Godwin points out, their effort to sidestep a lawsuit from the ACLU, may have put the Columbus County Board of Education in worse legal peril.

They are in the most unenviable position possible with the threat of a lawsuit from the ACLU if they continue to allow the Gideons (and other religious organizations) their Constitutional rights to distribute literature in the schools and, on the other hand, face a possible lawsuit from legal organizations like the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) for their ‘impermissible viewpoint discrimination’ against the Gideons," he said . . . read more
