Michigan: church and schools join to mentor youngsters
Shena Abercrombie reports in the Flint Journal (2.10.2008):
Every year the group makes sure that all seven school buildings in the district — which includes the high school, middle school, an alternative education building, three elementary schools, and an early elementary facility — are adopted by local ministers.
The eight-year old program is similar to an Adopt-a-School Initiative that is sweeping the nation, where churches form partnerships with public schools and assist with everything from beautification projects to counseling in times of tragedy.
