Cal. court orders homeschoolers into government schools

Bob Unruh reports on WorldNetDaily:

A California court has ruled that several children in one homeschool family must be enrolled in a public school or “legally qualified” private school, and must attend, sending ripples of shock into the nation’s homeschooling advocates as the family reviews its options for appeal . . .

We find no reason to strike down the Legislature’s evaluation of what constitutes an adequate education scheme sufficient to promote the ‘general diffusion of knowledge and intelligence,’” the court said in the case. “We agree … ‘the educational program of the State of California was designed to promote the general welfare of all the people and was not designed to accommodate the personal ideas of any individual in the field of education.’” . . .

In re Rachel L., No. B192878 (Cal. App. Feb. 28, 2008) (”However, California courts have held that under provisions in the
Education Code, parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children.”)

Whoa! There are times like this when I find it difficult to defend my home state to Christians in other parts of the country who label CA as part of the “Left Coast.”

Good job, Cali! Way to keep your eyes on the important things…you know, like reading, writing, ‘rithmetic. Way to keep flushing an endless stream of money down the drain while our students fall farther and farther behind.

Incidentally, homeschoolers CONTINUALLY perform better on exams than their public school counterparts…I was a part of the CA public school system, so I would know.

I’m thinking this is THE test court case intended to intimidate and prevent parents that are thinking of drawing their children out of the public schools in California because of the recent gay legislation. They know the terrific financial loss to the schools if school children leave in droves. So, they are actively working to make it illegal to leave unless going to a certified private school. I was a public school teacher for 22 years but if I had children in the California public school system, I would not leave them there. Stand up for your rights homeschoolers, this former public school teacher is with you.
