Florida: Ave Maria clinic won’t offer contraception, ACLU frets

The medical clinic in Ave Maria, which drew national attention when the town’s co-founder boasted about its restrictions on contraception, opened for business Monday amid continued concerns from civil liberties groups . . .
Katon said the ACLU would examine the town’s government through a series of public records requests to see if it was imposing formal or informal religious control . . .
There’s nothing there to find, according to Barron Collier Cos. Vice President Blake Gable.
There’s no town ordinance prohibiting contraception, no deed restriction on the clinic’s land and no prohibition written into the clinic’s lease.
“What happens between a doctor and a patient is their business and what happens between the university and the clinic is their business, too,” Gable said . . .
