Maine Heritage Policy Center seeks In-House Counsel/Trial Attorney

In-House Counsel/Trial Attorney

The Maine Heritage Policy Center (MHPC, www.MainePolicy.org) is launching a state Constitutional Law Center and is seeking an attorney to work as its first In-House Counsel/Trial Attorney. The attorney must be committed to the philosophy and goals of MHPC, and be prepared to use the practice of constitutional law to help advance those goals. The attorney will not only be expected to provide advice and counsel to MHPC, but to develop and maintain a full constitutional law case load. As this is a new position, the attorney must be able to function successfully in a self-directed, start-up, entrepreneurial environment.

MHPC seeks an attorney with at least 5 years of litigation and trial experience, ideally with some experience in constitutional law analysis and litigation. Working knowledge of tax-exempt, nonprofit law would additionally be helpful. Clerkship experience is preferred but not required. The successful candidate must be licensed to practice law in Maine or become licensed within six months of hire.

MHPC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank based in Portland, Maine. MHPC formulates and promotes free market, conservative public policies in the areas of economic growth, fiscal matters, health care, education, and government transparency—providing solutions that will benefit the people of Maine.

MHPC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, full health, short-term disability, life insurance, and retirement plan, as well as a collegial, intellectual, work environment.
