WHAT: Press conference concerning submission of signed marriage amendment petitions WHEN: Thursday, April 24, at 2 p.m. PDT WHERE: Outside the building of the Sacramento County Office of the Registrar of Voters at 7000 65th St., Suite A, Sacramento SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Joe Infranco will lead a press conference Thursday when signed petitions from California voters in favor of a marriage amendment to the state constitution are submitted to the Sacramento County Office of the Registrar of Voters. “The government should promote and encourage strong families. The best way to ensure it does so in California is to amend the state constitution to protect marriage,” said Infranco. “That’s the way to truly make sure no one tampers with the will of the people.” “This amendment gives the people of California the opportunity to prevent activists from wrongfully using the courts to thwart what the voters made clear when they approved Proposition 22,” Infranco explained. “The fact that Proposition 22 is under attack in the courts right now is evidence of how much this amendment is needed.” The marriage amendment effort is a broad coalition led by the California Family Council, the Proposition 22 Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the National Organization for Marriage. ADF acts as legal counsel for the coalition. The coalition gathered more than 1.1 million signatures for the petitions in favor of the amendment, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The text of the proposed amendment is available at www.protectmarriage.com/read.php. ADF is a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation. |
