Wheaton College: Ozzie and Harriet morality in the age of Sarah Jessica Parker

The Wall Street Journal has published this commentary by William McGurn: What’s So Odd About Religious Colleges?

He begins:

It’s tough to run a college these days. It’s tougher still when you set high standards. And it’s toughest of all when those standards reflect an Ozzie and Harriet morality in a Sarah Jessica Parker world.

Just ask the folks at Wheaton College . . .

Yet there is something refreshing about an institution willing to stand up for its convictions rather than trim its sails to the prevailing winds . . .

How shocking..an organization,a group,a club,a church,a university of higher learning having a set of rules it lives by and stands for…shhhh..how UN PC can one be! Congrats to this college…like the boy scouts it stands for something and thus has a lifeline..a dedicated alumni…a cord of the living..not a mish mash of a piece of paper that means as much and as tasty..as watered down soup!

If we are truly converted to Christ, we should be living counterculturally and taking stands such has Wheaton has in this instance. We are in the world but not of it. We don’t live to placate the world nor should we cave under any pressure whatsoever brought to bear upon us by people who care more about prevailing cultural views than that which is in accordance with God’s Word. Good for you Wheaton! May others who name the name of Christ, follow your good example.
