Glen Lavy: “A state marriage amendment is needed”

ADF Sr. Vice President, Glen Lavy has this commentary on the San Diego Union Tribune. He writes:

. . . Clearly, the justices and the voters are grappling with irreconcilable differences when it comes to defining marriage. And, in this state of wedlock gridlock, the burden of proof is on the judges – and on the many California legislators who are applauding this latest ruling.

After all, if the first concern of the state’s highest tribunal (and the majority of California elected officials) is not the welfare of children, or respect for profound legal precedent, or the expressed will of most of the state’s electorate – what is defining the court’s priorities? What is setting the government’s agenda when it comes to the issue of marriage?

California, of course, is home to the largest and certainly most vocal homosexual minority in America . . .

And so, the future and freedom of this state’s families have come to rest, finally, where they always should have – squarely on the shoulders of the citizens themselves . . .
