Pacifist teacher to be allowed to change oath

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

A pacifist who was denied a teaching job at California State University because she refused to sign the state’s loyalty oath will be offered a position this fall and allowed to sign a modified statement under a settlement announced Monday.

Wendy Gonaver had been offered a position as a temporary lecturer teaching two courses at Cal State Fullerton last fall, but the offer was withdrawn when she said her Quaker and pacifist views prevented her from signing the oath that has been required of all state and local government employees since 1952 . . .
