Turkey: ‘The Constitutional State is in Danger’

Turkey’s highest court upheld a ban on wearing headscarves in universities on Thursday. The court is likely to rule on a far more explosive issue later this year: the legality of the ruling Islamist-rooted AKP party. In an interview with SPIEGEL, Istanbul constitutional lawyer Mustafa Sentop, 39, says judges are usurping the Turkish government’s power.
