Interesting… I wonder if they are concerned about the “Secular Humanists of the Low Country” license plate that is currently available in South Carolina. It says “in reason we trust.” This sort of nullifies the “I don’t believe” argument in the press release. Also, they should probably take issue with the Erskine College license plate which has the school’s crest on it. The crest has a Bible in the middle and is surrounded by what I believe are communion tokens from the early Presbyterian church in Scotland. Erskine is a sectarian school with a seminary.
I would be most concerned with the NASCAR plates. NASCAR is probably the biggest religion in the South. You can even get plates supporting different drivers.
