Marriage is Foundational for the Well-being of Society

Family Voice, the Blog of the Family Policy Council of West Virginia, carries this post. It concludes: “Since the impact of marriage and family stems beyond the personal realm and reaches far into the public and societal spheres, then governments should not attempt to redefine the historical understanding of marriage, but rather endorse it, support it, and enact policies to strengthen it. “

Government is not redefining - only adapting to changes society has made for what is a family.

Not all societal changes need to be embrace by the government. For instance, the whole notion of “right” and “wrong” is becoming blurred and categorically denied. If there were a large number of people who believed that stealing is O.K., should the government adapted to this societal change and no longer punish thieves? Even though that are some that believe marriage is to be redefined apart from its historical and universally accepted definition does not necessitate the government to adapt to this desire. Especially if the wellbeing of marriages impact more than the family and the individuals that comprise it, but all spheres of society.
