ADF poised to defend three pro-life bills signed by Utah governor
ADF attorneys offer free legal representation to Utah House of Reps members sponsoring new legislation aimed to protect women and preborn children
SALT LAKE CITY — Alliance Defense Fund attorneys have sent letters to Utah Reps. Paul Ray and Carl Wimmer offering free legal representation to defend key abortion law amendments from any legal attacks waged by pro-abortion advocacy groups. Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr., signed bills HB 90, HB 222, and HB 114 Friday to provide new protections for viable preborn children, require abortionists to provide women with sufficient prenatal information, and establish a fund for defense of the legislation.
“No one should be allowed to decide that an innocent life is worthless. Utah’s new laws are simply common-sense measures to protect innocent, viable children and their mothers in line with rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Steven H. Aden.
“A fully informed woman and the life of her child are worth more than an abortionist’s bottom line,” said ADF-allied attorney Frank Mylar of Cottonwood Heights. “We are pleased to offer our legal assistance, free of charge, to ensure these protections are not stripped away.”
HB 90 prohibits most abortions after viability, except to save the life of the mother or prevent grave risk to her physical health. HB 222 requires abortionists to inform women that aborted babies feel pain after 20 weeks gestation and that anesthetic will be provided for the baby upon request. HB 114 establishes a fund to defend the legislation and any future similar legislation.
