More than 500 supporters of the “I Believe” state license plate were urged to speak up for their beliefs and for the production of the plate, which was halted by a federal judge.
The rally at Temple Baptist Church, Simpsonville, was the second pro-plate gathering in the Upstate since U.S. District Court Judge Cameron McGowan Currie issued a preliminary injunction Dec. 11 against the manufacture of the plate in response to a lawsuit that said the Christian plate violated the constitutional establishment clause that forbids government from establishing a religion.
