Fighting for the First Amendment in NYOneNewsNow: Alliance Defense Fund is considering a federal lawsuit against Oyster Bay, New York, for violating a citizen’s free-speech rights. More than two years ago, Susan Mendelson of Jews for Jesus was distributing Christian material in a park when she was cited for distributing materials in a public park without a permit. Rick Nelson, a spokesperson for the American Liberties Institute and the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), tells OneNewsNow they were able to get the citations dismissed. “We then worked with the town of Oyster Bay’s attorneys in reaching a settlement and at the same time trying to explain to them that the code provisions they were newly adopting were also unconstitutional,” he explains.
