New technologies are being developed, including same-sex procreation—already successfully done in mice. Reproductive cloning apparently is gaining acceptance, with a recent survey showing 10 percent of fertility-clinic directors saying they would support it for their patients. And children have been created with the DNA of three adults—from the sperm of the father, the nucleus of the mother’s egg (because the woman has a genetic condition or old eggs), and the cytoplasm of a younger woman’s egg. A child could therefore have three genetic parents.
