ADF attorney to defend religious liberty in testimony
H.B. 5 would threaten freedom, give protected class status to individuals
WHO: ADF Senior Legal Counsel Austin R. Nimocks WHAT: Available for media interviews after testifying before the Delaware Legislature at a hearing on H.B. 5 WHEN: Wednesday, May 13, immediately following the hearing, which begins at 1 p.m. EDT WHERE: Legislative Hall, 150 William Penn St., Dover DOVER, Del. — Alliance Defense Fund Senior Legal Counsel Austin R. Nimocks will be available for media interviews Wednesday following his testimony before the Delaware Legislature arguing against the passage of H.B. 5. If enacted, the law would equate a range of sexual behaviors with legitimate protected classes such as age, race, and handicap, is a serious threat to fundamental liberty. “Men and women are different, and nothing can change that,” said Nimocks. “If H.B. 5 is passed, religious freedom will be undermined throughout the state of Delaware, allowing the government to demand that private citizens and employers act contrary to their own consciences.” In his testimony, Nimocks will argue that the act would place the state on a collision course with constitutional protected religious liberty rights in decisions related to housing, employment, public accommodations, and other areas.
