Catholic law school staff and faculty reaffirm support for “LGBT” cause and offer no defense of marriage
According to Above the Law, a group of faculty and administrators at Boston College School of Law have, in response to Professor Scott T. Fitzgibbon’s appearance in an ad warning of the dangers of same-sex “marriage” (and Dean John Garvey’s tepid support for Fitzgibbon’s academic freedom), released a statement reaffirming their support for LGBT students. No defense of marriage is offered by the faculty or staff which lends further credibility to concerns raised by Richard R. Collier, Jr. in yesterday’s ADF Alliance Alert post: The Nature of Academic Freedom is Central to the Controversy at Boston College Law School. Dean Garvey is listed as a signer of the new statement by faculty and staff.
Here is the purported text of the statement signed by the law faculty and administration:
The undersigned members of the faculty and administration at Boston College Law School feel that it is important to reaffirm our belief in the equality of all of our students. We are proud of the fact that Boston College Law School was one of the first law schools in the country to include sexual orientation in its non-discrimination pledge, and we reaffirm our commitment to making our institution a welcome and safe place for all students, including LGBT students.”
