This note is not meant in any way to discount or undermine the beneficial role of religion in America, and its purpose is not to criticize religious employers for making personnel decisions based on religious doctrine or belief. Rather, because employment discrimination is one of the great evils that plague our society, courts should hold religious employers accountable for their discriminatory employment actions absent evidence of a religious motivation.
