Nampa Classical Academy, state continue clash over religious text

Idaho Press-Tribune: According to the report, the State is arguing that it is acceptable to use excerpts from religious texts in textbooks, but it is not acceptable to use the original texts. The report concludes:

But NCA attorney David Cortman wonders what the difference is. Cortman works for the Alliance Defense Fund, which has taken NCA’s religious text lawsuit pro bono. “What interest could it possibly serve … to say that you can study, for example, Job in literature class … only if you read Job from a source that has copied it verbatim, but not from the book of Job if it is still attached to the scriptures?” Cortman wrote in an e-mail to the Press-Tribune. “It seems to be a distinction without a difference, and a bit silly at that.”

Cortman also writes that the lawsuit also names other Idaho statewide education officials and seeks to allow all public schools to use religious texts, not just charter schools.
