O Centro case finally dismissed by Federal District CourtReligion Clause: “In 2006, in Gonzales v. O Centro Espirita Beneficiente Uniao Do Vegetal, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal government cannot block a New Mexico church from using a hallucinogenic tea for religious purposes, and remanded the case for further proceedings. (See prior posting.) Today’s Albuquerque Journal reports that the case last week was finally been dismissed by a New Mexico federal district court after the parties entered a 21-page settlement agreement.” |
