Cardinal George says same-sex marriage is irrational | Mark Brown at Chicago Sun Times

Mark Brown at Chicago Sun Times: You might expect the leader of the Catholic Church in Chicago to explain his opposition to same-sex marriage on the basis of his religious tenets, but Cardinal Francis George says that’s secondary. “This is first of all a rational issue before it’s a faith issue,” the cardinal told me in an interview this week. “That is, it’s nature that tells us what marriage is, that in marriage, men and women aren’t interchangeable.”

‘Right Side of History,’ or Primed to Say Yes? | Mark Regnerus at NRO

Mark Regnerus at NRO: Here is what the Rice study’s authors say they discovered: First, they found less support for same-sex marriage than polls like Gallup and CNN tend to find. In fact, in 2012, 53 percent of those surveyed agreed that the only legal marriage should be between a man and a woman, while 13 percent sat on the fence, and 33 percent disagreed with the statement. Second, they detected no statistically significant change in overall sentiment on same-sex marriage over those six years.

The State: But the Palmetto Family Council has its own legal team ready to counter any effort to overturn the amendment. Director Oran Smith says he relies on a statewide network of attorneys trained by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a national legal group that, according to its website, is devoted to “religious liberty, the sanctity of life and marriage and family.” Smith said he does not think his group would intervene in specific cases of same-sex couples seeking federal benefits. But it would intervene if “we saw a pattern of the courts not respecting the marriage amendment in South Carolina.”

Hawaii next for push to redefine marriage

Hawaii Congressional Delegation calls for marriage redefinition

Hemant Mehta on rising atheism among millenials: ‘It’s not that Christianity is unpopular, it’s that it’s untrue.’

Raw Story (carries CNN video): “Not all the millenials who are leaving church are necessarily flocking to atheism. But if you ask young people, if you ask millenials what comes to mind when they think of Christianity, when they think of the church, they will tell you it’s anti-gay, anti-doubt, anti-woman, anti-science, anti-sex education,” Mehta said. “We all know what the church is against, and we really don’t care what the church is for when you have that much baggage.”
