The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) regulates the government's conduct of intelligence surveillance inside the United States. The law generally requires the government to seek warrants before surveilling "agents of a foreign power" engaged in espionage or terrorism. In practice, it grants the government wide surveillance authority.

Below is a general overview about what FISA is and what the FISA court does.

SCOTUS Blog: Trying to predict the author of any given Supreme Court opinion is often a fool’s errand. The pattern by which Justices are assigned opinions isn’t entirely fixed. And the original author can lose the majority to some other member of the Court. That said, across an entire Term, the Chief Justice — who does most of the opinion assignments, because he generally is in the majority — does attempt to distribute the workload evenly. If that pattern holds this Term as well, then one feature of the remaining cases is noteworthy.

Above the Law: Chaos is a ladder. And right now, the legal education business is chaotic. Prospective law students are starting to wise up to the law school game. Applications have been dropping as law schools struggle to explain how it makes sense to go deep into debt just to participate in a very challenging job market.

Politico: Changing the rules to make it easier to confirm President Barack Obama’s executive branch or judicial appointments may help the White House in the short term, and railing against Republican filibusters plays well with the Democratic base.
