The bishops’ guide is inadequate from pro-life perspective; fails to give voters clear guidance how to make the best choice when voting; and relies on the classic “seamless garment” error. Pro-life issues are first mentioned on page 15 and it says: “[D]efence of the immeasurable value of human life is part of a ‘seamless robe‘”. See http://is.gd/9BFfl for Archbishop Raymond Burke’s debunking of the ’seamless garment’ approach to pro-life issues. That said, the bishops’ guide does have some good insights into the plight of families, and it’s good that it challenges politicians to act ethically.

According to South Australia's Non-Government Schools Registration Board, the policy regarding teaching of Creation in the science class of Christian (and other non-govt) schools is as follows:

[[[
(Effective December 2009)
NON-GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS
REGISTRATION BOARD

Policies

B: CURRICULUM – POLICY, GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES (continued)

B4. The teaching of Science in relation to creationism and intelligent design
The Board requires the teaching of Science as an empirical discipline, focusing on inquiry, hypothesis, investigation, experimentation, observation and evidential analysis.

The Board does not accept as satisfactory a science curriculum in a non‐government school which is based upon, espouses or reflects the literal interpretation of a religious text in its treatment of either creationism or intelligent design.
]]]

As the parent of young children who currently attend a Christian school in Western Australia, I am gravely concerned (not to mention surprised) at this news. Firstly, I had no idea that State Governments had this level of jurisdiction over what is taught in non-government schools. Secondly, atheists/secular humanists have hi-jacked the definition of what comprises "science" and "truth" and have weaved their worldview into the curricula of state schools under the guise of "Science". As a Christian who pays to send her children to a Christian school, why am I faced with the prospect that this same group of people will define what is "truth" and what is "science" for my children and, ultimately, determine what worldview is taught in independent Christian schools?

Notably, one of the primary reasons my husband and I chose to send our children to a Christian school is because this particular Christian school's curriculum includes the teaching of Creation (as per Genesis). I am saddened at the prospect that there could, one day, be no schools left where Biblical Creation is taught in the Science class as the true account of the origins of the universe. Perhaps I should start preparing to homeschool my children?

Politics is like a game, like football. You have to play the ball. This wasn't about playing the ball, this was a dirty tackle on a player. If Farage has something to say, he should stick to politics. This was an low attack on the man, and deserves a red card. Nobody is responsible for his/her looks, and if that's a breaking point for NF, then he's even more shallow than he appears to be. Still, it sounds like sour grapes to me, he wouldn't have reacted if Tony Blair had been sitting in that chair. I am very disappointed by this British politician, and I wonder if the rest of his voters have the same - low - level of conduct.

Although I had, voluntarily, read Adam Smith's better known Wealth of Nations in college 50 years ago, I must admit that I had not even heard of his "Theory of Moral Sentiments" until reading this short piece. The city and state university library here don't have it. If , after 250 years, it has been posted on line anywhere, or is otherwise available economically and in reasonably large print, plese let me know.

CO is one of the States I havent been able to find statistics on how many abortions are performed & at what gestional age. How many late term abortions did CO taxpayers pay for?

The argument that "most pro-lifers' solution to the abortion issue is MORE centralization of power in the federal government" [Emphasis added] is fallacious and wrong, for one simple reason: The Supeme Court majoirty in roe v. Wade and its progeny have alerady grabbedf ALL power over this issue from the people and the states, as well as Congress, into their own, i.e. federal, hands. At this point, short of a complete reversal by the Court, akin to its replacement of Plessy v. Ferguson in Brown v. Board and successive cases, or a Constitutional amendment, both very unlikely any time soon, there is no real way to deal with the judicial power grab. Ron Paul is right in theory but offers no solution that works in practice. Education, etc. doesnt work here because the Court has foreclosed the Constitutionally guarnteed rights of the people to a republican form of government, and to limit the federal government to its p roperspheres, per the original text and the Ninth and Tenth Amendment.
