. believers came to realize they’d made a “devil’s bargain” when they decided to more or less “leave aside their beliefs when entering the public debate.” There is a major (and overlooked) reason why people of faith began to realize that they had made a profound mistake: The explosive growth of government.

It is difficult to overstate the extent of leftist ambitions in the education process. From the earliest ages (just look at the new push for universal preschool) to the last days of a graduate degree, the left zealously guards not just its legally privileged position as ultimate arbiter of the content of your child’s education but also its dominant numbers in the teachers’ unions (have you seen what they teach in schools of education these days?) and the university professoriate.

In general, an outspoken atheist at a conservative Christian college is far more likely to enjoy stimulating, civil debate than is an outspoken conservative Christian at one of our elite secular colleges . . . As my friend (and ADF colleague) Jordan Lorence often says, our secular universities are really the church schools of the left.

Attorney David French, who heads ADF’s Center for Academic Freedom, has this post at PhiBetaCons on National Review. He observes that David Bernstein over at the Volokh Conspiracy “has been all over Penn State University for its absurd censorship of an art display.” French also mentions ADF’s suit against Penn State reported in this press release. Additional coverage of some of the litigation against Penn State can be found in the ADF Alliance Alert archive here.

Christian Post: “There has to be a wall institutionally between the government and the church or religious groups,” he said. “But many have taken that law of separation to think that it means separating religion from politics, which is precisely the opposite of what the Founding Fathers wanted.”
