LiMandri spoke on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at a rally in support of protecting the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial . . . 'War heroes have earned the right to be remembered,' Infranco said.
ADF President and CEO Alan Sears writing at Inside the Issues: "Paul warned the Christians of Corinth that the cross would always be 'a stumbling block' and 'foolishness' (1 Corinthians 1:22) to the people around them. He told the Philippians that there were many who act as 'enemies of the cross of Christ (Philippians 3:18).' That opposition took a significant new legal hold in a ruling issued January 4th by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. The court ruled 3-0 that the memorial cross that has stood at Mount Soledad since 1954 violates the U.S. Constitution."

Record Gazette: "What is at stake in the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial Cross case, and the companion Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Cross case (now pending in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal and is certain to go to the U.S. Supreme Court), is whether 300 million Americans will continue to have the right to choose how they will honor their war dead and other veterans, including by use of the cross or other symbols with a religious aspect; or whether the ACLU or single individuals who claim they are 'offended' by the sight of a cross at a veterans memorial will have a veto power over those decisions. Thus, the decision is a great victory for veterans and for Americans’ freedom of choice. Had the court ruled otherwise, there would be a tsunami of Establishment Clause attacks on veterans memorials by the ACLU and others."

"Rees Lloyd is an attorney and past commander of Banning Post 428 and District 21. He also is director of the Defense of Veterans Memorials Project of the American Legion Department of California and ADF."

Today, however, veterans memorials on public land are under threat from establishment of religion clause lawsuits. These lawsuits are being filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on the behalf of individuals who complain that they are offended by the sight of a cross at a veterans memorial. Although generally unknown to most Americans, the ACLU seeks and receives millions in judge-ordered, taxpayer-paid attorneys' fees in these cases."

The issue is familiar to San Diego residents, who have endured nearly 20 years of litigation over the Latin cross atop Mount Soledad in La Jolla . . .
