NECN: The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists filed a motion to intervene in the case Monday, along with a notice of its appeal of the injunction. The group claims it has legal standing in the case because its members in Kansas are losing childbirth-related business to abortion clinics.

Washington Post / Federal Eye: “On Monday, three groups that support lifting the gay ban — the Palm Center at the University of California Santa Barbara, OutServe and Knights Out — said they want lawmakers to pass the [defense authorization bill] whether or not it includes language ending ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ . . . It’s a risky political calculation that puts them in direct conflict with four larger groups more directly involved with lobbying efforts to end the ban: the Human Rights Campaign, the Center for American Progress, Servicemembers United and Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.”

John D. Podesta, founder and president of the Center for American Progress, and Robert A. Levy, chairman of the Cato Institute, writing in the Washington Post: “43 years after Loving, the courts are once again grappling with denial of equal marriage rights — this time to gay couples. We believe that a society respectful of individual liberty must end this unequal treatment under the law. Toward that goal, we have agreed to co-chair the advisory board of the American Foundation for Equal Rights. The foundation helped launch the case of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which is currently before a federal district court in California but is likely to be appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
