Last year, some parents chose to withdraw their children from any school that promotes the Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is a project of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which promotes a radical sexualized agenda, including the promotion of books that encourage sex between adults and minors.

ADF attorney David Cortman writes at the Speak Up Movement Church Blog: No one likes bullying (except maybe the bully). It should not be tolerated–regardless of the reason for it. So is one type of bullying worse than any other? Does the student that is being bullied feel any better if he is being bullied for certain, more politically correct reasons, but not others? Don’t think so. So why does the left play the bullying card so much when it comes to promoting the homosexual agenda in public schools? And why does the left so quickly accuse Christians of bullying merely because they believe that the Bible teaches against homosexual behavior? It seems to me that there is a tremendous difference between refusing to condone or approve such behavior and advocating violence. It’s the old admonition to “love the sinner, hate the sin.”

The SSIA would amend the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act to include bullying- and harassment-prevention programs, including ones based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Countering the Silence, the Day of Truth began in 2005. The Alliance Defense Fund launched the event with the goal of supporting students of faith who wanted to peacefully engage in a free exchange of ideas and respectfully share a Biblical perspective when issues like homosexuality are brought up and celebrated in their public school. Focus on the Family became the events sponsor in late 2010. Changing the name to The Day of Dialogue (which makes more sense to me), Focus hopes to encourage peaceful, student-initiated conversation and ensure there is a safe space for different perspectives and viewpoints, including faith-based ones." | Day of Dialogue

Benoit Denizet-Lewis writes at the NY Times: "I heard similar accounts from those who work with gay youth all across the country. Though most adolescents who come out do so in high school, sex researchers and counselors say that middle-school students are increasingly coming out to friends or family or to an adult in school. Just how they’re faring in a world that wasn’t expecting them — and that isn’t so sure a 12-year-old can know if he’s gay — is a complicated question that defies simple geographical explanations. Though gay kids in the South and in rural areas tend to have a harder time than those on the coasts, I met gay youth who were doing well in socially conservative areas like Tulsa and others in progressive cities who were afraid to come out . . . All of this fluidity, confusion and experimentation can be understandably disorienting for parents and educators."
