Within weeks, Jaiya, 34, fell for a furniture designer Ian Ferguson, 44, at a dance class, and a year later she fell pregnant with his baby. But Jon supported Jaiya, welcomed Ian into his home, and the two men helped deliver baby Eamon during an 'orgasmic' labour.

In a paper in the Journal of Medical Ethics, Daniela Cutas is heavy on “may” and “might” conjectures and – as you’d expect – light on any evidence. As timing would have it, Cutas’ silliness was slapped down by a Canadian court when it ruled recently that polygamy is detrimental to women, children and society – basing its decision on solid evidence.

At The Public Discourse, Andrew Haines reviews Polyamory in the 21st Century by Deborah Anapol: "Anapol’s account is designed as an all-around apologia of the consensual free love movement and attempts to radically and critically redefine the very meaning of sex . . . Two themes in Polyamory in the 21st Century are particularly striking: the author’s preoccupation with distinguishing love from lust; and the anthropological, relational, and ethical considerations she offers as a consequence of her findings."

Deborah Anapol, Ph.D., writing at Psychology Today: "It doesn't matter what we call it, the fact is that my body can tell me if a lover is making love with someone else. My body can detect the blood type of a man I'm making love with and select a compatible match for conception. My body can refuse to respond if a potential lover is unhealthy in some way. If my body can do this, so can the bodies of others, but a closed mind will not listen when the body talks . . . For today's humans, sex almost always involves egoic considerations of one form or another. These considerations sometimes overpower the wisdom of the body and sometimes they don't."

One of the greatest strengths of Western civilization (which comes straight from Christianity) is monogamy. This marital relationship became the DNA of the whole social structure of the West and all its societies. But for the last 200 years, there's been an assault on monogamy as part of the agenda to change our culture. Polyamory (multiple partners) is the competition. To learn more about this aggressive push to redefine the West, join us tomorrow, October 27, for a lecture by FRC's Dr. Patrick Fagan. Starting at noon at FRC's headquarters (801 G Street, NW, Washington, D.C.), Dr. Fagan will explain how this culture clash affects America's future. HBO started the normalization of polygamy with its drama 'Big Love,' but TLC is openly pushing for the walls of judgment to come falling down. Its slogan for the show is 'Rethink love. Rethink marriage. Rethink family reality' . . . This isn't the only TLC show to promote the 'poly' -- yup, the hip new word -- lifestyle. They also aired a series this summer called 'Strange Sex,' which also had a plot about 'polyamory,' which is described as 'consensual, responsible non-monogamy.' TLC started as the Learning Channel; it's fast becoming the Libertine Channel."

Ann E. Tweedy, Polyamory as a Sexual Orientation (June 29, 2010). Available at SSRN: http://ssrn.com/abstract=1632653

"This article examines the possibility of expanding the definition of 'sexual orientation' in employment discrimination statutes to include other disfavored sexual preferences, specifically polyamory. It first looks at the fact that the current definition of 'sexual orientation' is very narrow, being limited to orientations based on the sex of those to whom one is attracted, and explores some of the conceptual and functional problems with the current definition. Next the article looks at the possibility of adding polyamory to current statutory definitions of sexual orientation, examining whether polyamory is a sufficiently embedded identity to be considered a sexual orientation and the degree of discrimination that polyamorists face. After concluding that expanding current statutory definitions of sexual orientation to include polyamory would be reasonable, the article looks at some of the complications to making such a move, including potential policy implications and the conflicting evidence as to whether polys want specific legal protections."

Mr. Olson's 'lifetime of exposure to persons of different backgrounds, histories, viewpoints, and intrinsic characteristics" is apparently limited to a resulting sympathy for gays . . . [I]t seems inescapable here that Olson has erred. If he has the passion he expresses for gay marriage, then his time would be more constructively spent for his cause convincing the voters of California and indeed other states. Seek consensus, convince, persuade, make the case. But, outstanding lawyer or not, resist the temptation to 'resolve' this by judicial fiat.'"

World Congress of Families, Patrick Fagan, Ph.D., 8.12.2009

"The 'monogamous' and the 'polyamorous' cultures have totally different approaches to life, with religious worship and monogamous marriage being the defining differences in their different approaches to the sexual act. Coexistence necessitates that the differences be observed by giving parents of both cultures control over the programs that cause conflict: education, adolescent health and sex education. Monogamous men need to act to obtain this for the sake of their own children."
