Associated Press: “The Texas State Board of Education adopted a resolution Friday that seeks to curtail references to Islam in Texas textbooks, as social conservative board members warned of what they describe as a creeping Middle Eastern influence in the nation’s publishing industry.”

Augusta Free Press: “The ACLU of Virginia has asked the Textbook Review Committee of Chesterfield County Public Schools to drop from consideration a controversial Bible study course that may unconstitutionally promote religious beliefs in public schools. The course, entitled The Bible in History and Literature and produced by the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools . . . ”

The Times-Picayune: “Rep. Charles ‘Bubba’ Chaney, D-Rayville, thought he had an innocuous bill when he arrived at the House Education Committee this morning. The Louisiana Family Forum and social conservatives had another idea, effectively forcing Chaney to abandon a proposal to change the process for choosing textbooks for Louisiana schools.”
