Pennsylvania: City prayer dispute resurfaces

The Daily Local News reports:

City Councilman Marty Eggleston is trying to bring prayer back to City Council meetings. He made a motion Monday night to reverse a ban on prayer that has been in place since February 2007. “I’m going to keep making the motion until it passes,” he said . . .

Until last year, City Council offered a prayer at the beginning of every official meeting. But the American Civil Liberties Union . . . pressured City Council to remove prayer from meetings . . . The idea to hold prayers before the call to order came from the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal-aid group. This group has offered to defend City Council, pro bono, should its right to pray be challenged in court.
