Quebec dad sued by daughter after grounding loses his appeal

CBC reports: “Quebec Superior Court rejected the Gatineau father’s appeal of a lower court ruling that said his punishment was too severe for the wrongs he said his daughter committed . . . In its ruling, issued Monday, the province’s court of appeal declared the girl was caught up in a “very rare” set of circumstances, and her father didn’t have sufficient grounds to contest the court’s earlier decision.”

Freedom of Speech in Islam

    Varldenidag.se (Mats Tunehag Blog):
The term ‘Human Rights’ is used by many, also by Muslims. But it doesn’t necessarily imply that the users of the term mean the same thing. This is important to note as we discuss freedom of speech and religion . . . “This is what the Cairo Declaration says about freedom of speech: ‘Everyone shall have the right to express his opinion freely in such manner as would not be contrary to the principles of the Shariah. Everyone shall have the right to advocate what is right, and propagate what is good, and warn against what is wrong and evil according to the norms of Islamic Shariah.‘ Thus freedom of speech is interpreted and limited by sharia.”

23 Detroit schools face closure

USA Today: “The mass closing would be the third this decade for DPS, which has shuttered 70 buildings as enrollment plummeted from 173,848 a decade ago to about 95,000 today. Another 30 of the district’s roughly 200 schools could close in 2010. Bobb said Wednesday that the proposed closure list resulted from an analysis of enrollment, building conditions, community partnerships and academic achievement.”

Iowa Congressman Calls for ‘Help’ in Overturning Homosexual ‘Marriage’ Ruling

School faces lawsuit for dismissing student who refused to condone homosexuality

Catholic News Agency: During the hearing, EMU faculty reportedly denigrated her Christian views and asked “several inappropriate and intrusive questions about her religious beliefs,” the ADF said . . . But ADF Senior Counsel David French says that discrimination is exactly what took place. “Christian students shouldn’t be penalized for holding to their beliefs,” he said. “When a public university has a prerequisite of affirming homosexual behavior as morally good in order to obtain a degree, the school is stepping over the legal line . . . ADF Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco added: “Julea has a constitutional right not to be compelled to speak a message she disagrees with. She acted as a professional counselor should–with great concern both for her beliefs and the client.”

ADF says Eastern Michigan University ousted student for not affirming homosexual behavior

Examiner.com: “Christian students shouldn’t be penalized for holding to their beliefs,” said ADF Senior Counsel David French. “When a public university has a prerequisite of affirming homosexual behavior as morally good in order to obtain a degree, the school is stepping over the legal line. Julea did the responsible thing and followed her supervising professor’s advice to have the client referred to a counselor who did not have a conscience issue with the very matter to be discussed in counseling. She would have gladly counseled the client if the subject had been nearly any other matter.”

“EMU sued for booting student over views on gays”

Michigan Messenger: “According to The Ann Arbor News, the Alliance Defense Fund Center is suing EMU in Detroit’s U.S. District Court because it dismissed Julia Ward from the counseling graduate program after Ward referred a gay client to another counselor because she believes homosexuality is “immoral sexual conduct, and cannot affirm or validate that behavior or otherwise use her counseling skills and abilities to facilitate homosexual behavior, without violating her sincere religious beliefs,’ the lawsuit said.”

“Student Sues After Being Dropped from Gay-Positive Counseling Program”

Edge Boston: “But lawyers from The Alliance Fund say that Ward’s Constitutional rights were `violated by the University. The article quoted Alliance attorney David French as saying, ‘When a public university has a prerequisite of affirming homosexual behavior as morally good in order to obtain a degree, the school is stepping over the legal line.’ French pointed out the fact that Ward had made a referral for her client, saying, ‘Julea did the responsible thing and followed her supervising professor’s advice to have the client referred to a counselor who did not have a conscience issue with the very matter to be discussed in counseling.’”

Christian student refuses ‘remediation,’ gets the boot

One News Now: Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) senior counsel Jeremy Tedesco explains . . . “What we have here is a Christian who is a student in a master’s counseling degree program who was dismissed, kicked out of the school, simply because she was unwilling to violate her own religious beliefs in not advocating for homosexual behavior within the context of the counseling relationship,” he points out.

Heritage Foundation Board Elects Saunders Chairman

The President has become a divisive figure

Karl Rove writes at the Wall Street Journal: “The Pew Research Center reported last week that President Barack Obama “has the most polarized early job approval of any president” since surveys began tracking this 40 years ago. The gap between Mr. Obama’s approval rating among Democrats (88%) and Republicans (27%) is 61 points. This “approval gap” is 10 points bigger than George W. Bush’s at this point in his presidency, despite Mr. Bush winning a bitterly contested election.”
