Report: NH gov. approves of religion clause added to marriage redefinition bill

Nashua Telegraph: “Gov. John Lynch had seen the negotiated language and approves of it, his spokesman said . . . The latest agreement would add to the pending law regarding solemnization of marriages this clause: “Each religious organization, association, or society has exclusive control over its own religious doctrine, policy, teachings and beliefs regarding who may marry within their faith” . . . Kevin Smith, executive director of Cornerstone Policy Research, said the changes still did not protect individuals . . . “This is just more window dressing. It’s the latest attempt to try to give the governor more cover for having flip-flopped on gay marriage,” Smith said.
